Time to reinvent yourself Cherry!!

Zanjeer - a forgetable flick!
Zanjeer – a forgetable flick!

A wise man once said, he loved failure better than success as it offers him a chance to rectify himself and help to attain perfection. Hope Ram Charan had heard this quote before.

A boxoffice disaster like Zanjeer/Thoofan is disheartening to any cast or crew member who has put a lot of efforts into the movie. No matter what anyone says about him, Ram Charan is an actor with commitment and dedication. Tollywood stars are said to be hardworking and disciplined actors and true to his tribe, Cherry gives it all to his movies. So the failure of Zanjeer/Thoofan is going to hurt him badly. However the failure also proves a point that even Charan can’t afford to ignore: Reinvent yourself Cherry!!!

Being son of Megastar Chiranjeevi, Ram Charam is born with a silver spoon. Although he had no glam to be a hero, he made a much hyped entry with the movie Chirutha. He took the industry by storm with his Magadheera movie. After recieving his first set back with Orange movie, Cherry scored back to back hits with Racha and Nayak. Now he recieved his biggest failure in form of Zanjeer/Thoofan, So what is next to him? It’s not like his career is gonna end or something, he has Yevadu lined up for release and has signed up few other projects up front. But Zanjeer is a wake up call for him.

The biggest drawback for Cherry is that he has stereotyped himself. Take out Magadheera and Orange, you will see no variations in characters portrayed by Cherry in his other movies. Ram Charan needs to break those shackles first. This is a lesson he needs to learn from Tollywood Superstar Mahesh Babu. Mahesh acted in family movies like SVSC, Murari to action packed movies like Okkadu, Pokiri and offbeat movies like Nani and Nijam. Although he acted in crap movies like Business Man and Athithi, he also acted in entertaining movies like Dookudu and Athadu. He makes sure to have difference in how he is characterized from movie to movie. This has mostly worked in his favor and made him darling of not only his fans but to general audience as well.

Ram Charan is one of the few Tollywood stars who has a strong fan base and a great screen image. However it is also a factor working against him as he is taking his image too seriously. Inorder to protect his stardom, Cherry has been doing only larger than life characters. With the failure of Orange, Cherry avoids doing any different script except for the mass masala movies that gives him abundant scope to display his heroism. Ram must follow his uncle Powerstar Pawan Kalyan in this aspect. Despite being the Tollywood’s most followed star, Pawan always seems detached from his stardom. Pawan remains simpe even to this day and doesn’t look desperate to protect his hard achieved stardom. His simplicity and plain heartedness has made him the most respected artist of Tollywood.

Cherry also has a bad reputation of having untolerable attitude. In his just 6 movie career, Cherry had many tiffs with the media. Even after raising through the ranks to become Megastar, Chiranjeevi remained very polite and humble. Cherry must learn the lessons of Young Tiger NTR. Without a doubt, Junior NTR is the most talented actor of Tollywood. After scoring a blockbuster with Simhadri, he became too confident and proud of himself. We all know what happened next! From movie to movie, he bettered his flop records!! And then he realized what was happening and reinvented himself. He learnt to stay grounded and humble. From Yama Donga to Adhurs to Brindavanam and Badshah, NTR appeared in roles with different characterization. Young Tiger NTR Jr is back in full roar now!!

Even in Zanjeer debacle, critics like Taran Adarsh, Meena Iyer, Subhash K. Jha and Neha Gupta praised the performance of Ram Charan. Taran went on to call Zanjeer a triumph for Charan and he did exceedingly well in the movie. None blamed Cherry for the lack of talent or commitment, but his obsession to be called as superstar right from the wake of career is what drawing criticism. Charan must realize that being born as some star’s son doesn’t guarantee him any stardom. Charan must earn the right to be called a star, much like Ranbeer Kapoor did!

Charan must stop considering himself a star and first prove himself as an actor. He needs to portray a wide range of characters and impress general audience and fans alike. He needs to stay humble even on the face of success and leave his arrogance of stardom. That will be when Cherry will be joining the likes of Mahesh, Pawan and Jr. NTR!! With his talent and dedication, that wouldn’t be a hard task if he fine tunes his attitude!!!
